Smoke Curtains in Multi-Story Buildings

During a fire emergency, the most important task for firefighters is to save lives. To do so in an efficient manner, firefighters need smoke to be as quarantined as possible. In the case of multi-story buildings, such as office buildings or residential buildings stairwells and elevator shafts can serve as a chimney for smoke. Without proper smoke protection around these egress paths, smoke can easily travel from floor to floor restricting a firefighter’s path in and an occupant’s path out. Smoke rated curtains can be an easy addition to elevator doors. These curtains provide an extra level of protection against the travel of smoke. Plus, our orange transparent material provides a line of sight for firefighters and anyone who may be in the elevator at the time of an emergency. The transparency enables firefighters and occupants to not have to blindly enter a floor. With a magnetic gasketing system, our traditional elevator smoke protection curtains are easy to push aside to pass through and then will snap back into place. This system allows for maximum protection and flexibility. Plus, without side guides, Smoke Guard’s smoke curtains go virtually undetected when not deployed and therefore can be integrated into almost any building’s design.
